Kaieteur Falls

Guyana · South America

Kaieteur Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders of South America. Located deep inside the Potaro-Siparuni region of Guyana, the falls drop an extraordinary 226 metres (741 ft) in a single unbroken plunge, nearly five times the height of Niagara Falls.

Over 300,000 litres of water cascade over the edge every second during the wet season. Yet fewer than 10,000 visitors witness it each year, making it one of the most remote and least-visited waterfalls of its scale anywhere in the world.

How to get to Kaieteur Falls

There are no roads to Kaieteur. The most common way to visit is by small charter plane from Ogle Airport in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. The flight takes about one hour and lands on a small grass airstrip above the falls.

For the truly adventurous, a multi-day overland trek through the rainforest is possible with a licensed guide.
